COVID-19: How Landlords Can Help

landlords can help those displaced by covid 19

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread throughout the country, tens of thousands of people are being displaced and relocated. Due to shelter in place orders, travel bans, demand for doctors and nurses, and college campus closings, people may suddenly have an urgent need to find housing. While many landlords and property owners will also be deeply hurt by late or missed rent payments and loss of income, some landlords and short-term rental operators may be in a unique position to offer their help during this COVID-19 crisis.

Helping those displaced by COVID-19

A new initiative called Kopa for Good has been brought to our attention. It is a program that offers discounted and clean homes across the United States to those displaced by COVID-19. If you are a property owner with one or more vacant units, read on to see how landlords can help those displaced by COVID-19.

Discounted and clean homes for the COVID-19 pandemic

For those displaced by COVID-19, Kopa for Good rental properties offer a program to match residents with available properties, allowing those affected to focus on work, feel comfortable in their home, and prevent the spread. These spaces have everything they need to feel at home for 1+ month stays, including:

  • Discounted monthly rent, 20-40% below market rate
  • 0% Kopa service fees
  • Furnished properties, stocked with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, hand soap, and more
  • Professional cleaning before and after stays
  • Flexible cancellation policies from hosts, waived Kopa cancellation fees

Traveling nurses and medical professionals

Doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals are needed more than ever. Kopa for Good takes the stress and worry out of finding a place to live.

University students

College campuses across the United States closed their dorms, displacing thousands of students, including those who can’t go home due to international travel bans.

Quarantined patients

The best way to prevent the spread is to self-quarantine if you contracted or had prolonged exposure to someone with COVID-19.

Others displaced by COVID-19

As COVID-19 spreads throughout the United States, more folks are being displaced and need to find new places to live.

List your rental property to help those affected by COVID-19

Fill your vacancies on Kopa with 1+ month stays. Adding your property takes 10 minutes or less.

Several property management companies have already pledged to fight the spread of COVID-19 by offering over 10,000 discounted and safe apartments throughout the United States.

The Kopa for Good page explains more details about this, including requirements for landlords which include:

  • Discounted monthly rent
  • Furnished properties, stocked with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and hand soap, available for 1+ month stays
  • Professional cleaning before and after stays
  • Flexible cancellation policies

Most landlords and housing providers across the country are already committed to supporting residents who are impacted by COVID-19 and need assistance with their housing. Together we need to make sure that renters can access the resources that are available to them in our communities.

We hope everyone is staying safe in these changing and uncertain times. Here are a few links to some useful resources:
